Blue American Persimmon Fruit

I have read reports of blue fruited varieties, some that date back quite far. Nolin Nut Nursery sells a cultivar called 'Blue' that was discovered in 1978 by Leon Pounds. In the seedling planting at Oikos Tree Crops we have noticed a few trees that have orange fruit which begin to develop a blue blush as they become over-ripe. However, one tree in particular is noted for having only blue fruit with no orange at all. The size is a bit smaller than others, and the skin is relatively tough and raisin-like. The taste is very nice and lends itself to having hints of caramel and smokiness. I will be collecting scion wood to further propagate this unique variety.
